An innovative partnership between Eden Futures and Powerplay League scooped the 'Sporting Chance Award' at this year's National Learning Disability Awards.
The partnership was set up in 2016 when staff from Eden Futures responded to the requests of service users who wanted to play football. Following conversations with the Powerplay league in Stafford, the team from Doxey House were successful in joining the Power Play league, calling themselves the Doxey Diamonds.
The Doxey Diamonds are the only team in the league whose players include those with a learning disability, with the team made up of a mix of service users and Eden Futures’ staff (five service users and three members of staff).
Actress and Comedian Sally Phillips was on hand to present the team with their award at the gala event in Birmingham on 14th July.
